Cast reunited in festival date for famous Hull Truck play

HULL Truck is hitting the road again this summer when it joins thousands of other arts companies at the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Hull Truck began life as a touring company in 1971 and was a regular visitor to the Scottish capital throughout its early years.

Its visits have since become less regular, but this year will be back in force with the 25th anniversary production of Up 'n' Under.

The show, starring Abi Titmuss, drew big audiences to Hull Truck's Ferensway home, and will now be showcased at the biggest ever Festival Fringe, alongside acts such as Dizzee Rascal and actress Emma Thompson.

Writer and director John Godber said: "Up 'n' Under was the first play that I wrote for Hull Truck Theatre – but I think it's still a perfect example of the physical style of theatre that the company is renowned for. The response to the play from audiences in Hull was fantastic – we hope it goes down just as well with festival-goers."

Up 'n' Under was staged for the first time at Hull Truck's Spring Street venue in 1984. A year later it won an Olivier Award. In 1998 it was made into a film starring Neil Morrissey and Samantha Janus.

Model-turned-actress Abi Titmuss took the role of gym instructor Hazel; she was joined by former Gladiator James Crossley and Truck favourites William Ilkley, Robert Angell, Eamonn Fleming and Lewis Linford. The same cast will be reunited for the run at the Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, from August 5 to August 30. Abi said: "I am thrilled to be working with John Godber and Hull Truck again. We had a wonderful time in HullI can't wait to take the stage in Edinburgh.

"To perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe will be a dream come true."
