Cat that crawled home with broken pelvis saved

A CAT that suffered severe injuries in a road accident was saved by vets after she managed to crawl back home despite having her pelvis shattered.

Cinderella, known as Rella, from Gravesend in Kent, also ruptured her diaphragm and the contents of her abdomen were thrust into her lungs and chest.

According to the PDSA vets, Rella was extremely lucky to be alive. The injuries she sustained in March this year were some of the worst they have ever seen.

Owner Jo Phillips, 83, heard the cat flap move and she saw an apparently lifeless Rella on the kitchen mat, with her back legs limp and twisted.

Mrs Phillips had been worried after the cat went missing and vets were amazed she was able to even breathe.

Her owner took Rella straight to PDSA vet Georgina Smith, who said: "Rella was in a deep state of shock when she arrived and was in a very bad way. One look at her and we knew we had just minutes to stabilise her."

The PDSA team then operated and after four days Rella was allowed home but it was another six weeks confined to a cage before she was back up on four paws.
