Cattle on parade

The Champion Highland Bull Eoin Mhor of Miungairigh leads the breed during the cattle parade at the Great Yorkshire Show.

The cattle parade makes an impressive spectacle on the last day of the show. But a less solemn version, a couple of hours earlier, has become almost as popular. The Housewives' Choice competition involves a selection of animals being judged by women plucked from the crowd. The handlers turn up in fancy dress and the crowd fills a bucket for charity. Yesterday, the Dairy Shorthorns were champions of the day.
