Celebrity chefs give backing to schoolboy’s MS fundraising

CELEBRITY chefs including Jamie Oliver and Albert Roux are supporting a Ripon schoolboy’s charity fundraising event.

Roscoe Savage, 13, is organising a festive cookery demonstration and a silent auction of celebrity cookbooks to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

It was Andrew Pern, of the Star Inn at Harome, who started the ball rolling.

When Pern, whose mother suffers from MS, heard Roscoe’s mother and older brother were walking the Coast to Coast to raise money for the charity last year, he offered two of his cookery books to help boost funds.

Roscoe, who assists chef Gilly Robinson, of Swinton Park Cookery School on catering demonstrations, decided to ask other chefs to contribute books.

As well as Pern, Jamie Oliver and Albert Roux, Roscoe has also received signed cookery books from others including Delia Smith and Rosemary Shrager.

The Ripon Grammar School pupil, whose cousin suffers from MS, is having a stall at his school’s Christmas market, on November 17, 4pm to 7pm, when people will be able to place bids and he and Gilly Robinson will be holding a festive cookery demonstration in Galphay Village Hall on November 29, at 7.30pm.
