A challenge not to be taken lightly

ENTERING a team in Trailtrekker is a wonderful experience, but don’t be fooled – it is a gruelling challenge and some serious preparation will be needed.

Your team needs first to decide whether to take on the Gold, Silver or Bronze challenges and set a suitable time.

Try and get the whole team together for a long training walk. At the very least, you need to meet up, order clothing and equipment and talk through checkpoint times for each leg.

You also need to assemble and brief a support team to meet you at each checkpoint. Make sure they know the route intimately and have all the supplies.

Train on the actual trail if possible for a massive psychological advantage and train in your kit. Test out different food, drink and snacks to see what works best for you.

Take on a training walk of at least 25km with your team. It’s vital you know the pace and tactics of your team before attempting the real thing.
