More than 30,000 flocked to the first day of the Ebor Festival, compared with just under 20,000 last year. The figure was boosted by the fine weather and, more importantly, by the appearance of racing superstar, Frankel.

Today is Ladies Day and among the guests will be Nicola Adams, the Olympic boxing champion from Leeds, as well as Yorkshire’s celebrity chef Brian Turner.

Ebor is now one of the biggest dates in the sporting calendar, but as well as world class racing complete with £3m in prize money, over the four days 10,000 sandwiches and 1,200 east coast crabs will be made and prepared by more than 60 chefs on site at the racecourse.
