Champion pub owners get a taste for business

OWNERS of a gastropub in South Yorkshire that won the "Best British Food" award in the Ramsay's Best Restaurant television programme are to open a second venue in a former wine bar.

The Milestone will soon be opening in premises previously occupied by the Wig & Pen on Campo Lane and Paradise Square in Sheffield city centre.

Owners Matt Bigland and Marc Sheldon said in a statement issued yesterday: "2010 has been an amazing year for us. The local support has been great and the TV exposure has meant we are incredibly busy.

"After nearly four years at Kelham Island and after working really hard to develop a reputation for great food we felt the time was right to open another Milestone – working title Milestone Two.

"It will be different but very recognisable as the Milestone and of course it will offer the same quality food and service."

Milestone Two is set to open officially in the New Year, after the original pub in Kelham Island celebrates its fourth birthday.

However, before being refurbished, the new gastropub will open for a short time in the current Wig & Pen premises to test recipes and menus.

Assistant agent and receiver for the premises in Paradise Square, Jeremy Robinson, said: "Paradise Square is a major feature of Sheffield's historic Cathedral Quarter and the trustees of the square are delighted as they see the success of the venue as a key element in the ongoing regeneration."
