Championship coup for beer festival

BEER lovers will be able to sample a selection of tipples from across the region when Rotherham hosts its Real Ale and Music Festival at the Magna centre this spring.

Rotherham's branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has also secured the rights to host the official Yorkshire-wide beer championships, which will take place during the festival to be held from March 2 to March 5.

The winning beer will go on to compete in the national finals, where it could be crowned the Champion Beer of Britain for 2011.

Chairman of the Rotherham branch of CAMRA, Jim Crowe, said: "It is a terrific honour for Rotherham to host the Yorkshire beer championship and means that the festival is likely to attract some of the best brewers from all four corners of the region.

"Some people say that there is a beer out there to suit anyone's palate, and with over 250 beers available this year, festival visitors will have a great chance to discover the huge variety of real ales for themselves."
