Chance to discover the world of Victorian lady who lunches
Throughout the half-term holiday, visitors to the Castle Museum in York can learn how the Victorian lady of leisure planned 12-course banquets. There will also be the opportunity to sample the fashionable delicacy that was cucumber soup.
The assistant curator of social history, Lucy Knock, said: “Taking inspiration from our fantastic Victorian collection, we have planned some fun, family activities for this February half-term.

One of the activities on offer will give visitors the opportunity to make their own silhouettes which were all the craze during the period.
They can capture the likeness of a friend or loved one in black paper, inspired by Victorian silhouettes from the museum’s collection and even have their own Victorian classical portrait made by a real silhouette artist.
There is also a chance to learn more about the pastimes of Victorian ladies.
All the activities at the museum will allow visitors to get closer to authentic objects from the museum’s collection.
