Chance encounter brings old engine back to life

WORSBROUGH Country Park is a 240-acre site on the southern side of Barnsley and includes a 60-acre reservoir designated as a local nature reserve.

Regarded by locals as a “hidden gem” it is now hoped it will attract more visitors after it was awarded official country park accreditation by Natural England.

Jeff Lunn, Natural England’s area manager, said: “The well-managed natural green space of country parks like Worsbrough improves our quality of life and we are delighted to award this accreditation.

“The team there are working tirelessly to look after this beautiful area in Barnsley and are creating a wide range of opportunities for recreation, health and education.”
