Chance to renew vows on day of big wedding

A church in East Hull is offering couples a chance to renew their wedding vows on the day of the Royal Wedding.

St Hilda’s Church Community on Annandale Road is holding the service on Friday April 29 at 1.30pm, so couples will have time to watch the Royal Wedding and still get to the church on time.

Couples are invited to repeat the vows they made at their wedding ceremony during a short service, which will be followed by nibbles and Champagne, as well as the opportunity for professional photos.

Alison Gilchrist, of St Hilda’s Church Community on the Greatfield estate in the east of the city, and chaplain of Hull Kingston Rovers, whose idea the event is, said: “Some years ago at my home church in Blackpool we did a similar thing one Valentine’s Day and people loved it.

“When we were looking to the Royal Wedding Day and events to mark it, this came to mind.

“It seems to me to be ‘just the job’ for this occasion.”

There will be no cost for any part of the event which will be held at St Hilda’s.

Any married couple who would like to renew their vows should contact Rev Alison Gilchrist on 01482 799100 as soon as possible.

The event is part of a wider range of celebrations being held on Greatfield for the Royal Wedding in conjunction with the Big Lottery – Big Local Trust.
