Charities to benefit as pub hosts first real ale festival

A HISTORIC East Yorkshire pub hopes to pull in pounds for charity by pulling pints of some of the county’s finest real ales.

The New Inn in Leven, run by Phil and Lizzie Rawson, is hosting the first Leven Real Ale Festival at the weekend.

Set within the pub’s newly-refurbished Georgian courtyard, the festival will showcase some of Yorkshire’s finest real ales and ciders as well as food and live entertainment.

The festival gets under way on Friday with an all-ticket event, guests having the chance to sample a selection of 26 ales and ciders, including local producers Great Newsome Brewery, Wold Top, Old Mill and Moorlands Cider as well as musical entertainment.

Live entertainment on Saturday features a display from the East Yorkshire Morris Dancers, family games, more live music, home made food and more great cask ales and cider.

Every £1 from the entry price on Friday and half of the bar profits throughout the weekend will be donated to local educational charity, the Wray Trust and Leven Scouts.

Festival organiser James Harper said: “We are grateful to our sponsors and supporters for helping us put together a fantastic selection of ales and ciders for Leven’s very first Real Ale Festival. Hopefully, the weekend will have something for everyone, whether you’re a real ale lover or just want to get away to the countryside and enjoy a great pint and fine food in the fantastic surroundings of a traditional Yorkshire pub.”
