Charity launches Christmas appeal

The charity is urging people to donate a shoebox-sized Christmas hamper, which will go out to isolated and vulnerable people in the region in time for Christmas.

Last year residents donated hundreds of hampers, which were delivered by Age UK staff, volunteers and community groups.

They were much appreciated by the older people who received them.

One elderly resident said: “It was a lovely surprise. I did not expect to get anything and it was so nice to know that someone cared.”

Suggested items include tins of soup, fish or fruit, tea, coffee, biscuits and a luxury item. Food must have a “sell-by” date of February 2012 or later.

People can also put in a Christmas card with a festive greeting.

The box and lid should be wrapped separately with Christmas paper, or left unwrapped with a piece of wrapping paper enclosed.

They can be dropped off at Age UK’s East Riding office at 16 North Bar Within, Beverley before Friday December 9, or at Age UK shops.
