Charity’s year of giving generously

A CHARITY which has distributed more than £2m to hundreds of grass-roots projects in the past year has vowed to do even more in the coming year to help the region’s hardworking community heroes.

Leeds Community Foundation, which distributes grants to community groups, has just published its annual review.

The Foundation distributed £2.25m in grants to 371 community based projects in the past year.

It also raised £150,000 through its own campaigns, and raised awareness of two key issues affecting the city, winter fuel and empty homes.

Sally Anne Greenfield, chief executive of Leeds Community Foundation, said it had been “another good year” but she is encouraging businesses and funders to get even more involved in the coming year.

“We were able to continue our vital work supporting community projects throughout the city that make such a significant difference to the live of those who face disadvantage,” she said of the past year.

“Our plans for 2012-13 are ambitious because we know the support we provide is needed more now than ever before.”
