Cheese role in city for former soap star

THE actor-turned-cheesemaker Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt in Coronation Street, has confirmed he will be attending the Wakefield Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb.

Mr Wilson, who starred in the popular soap for 21 years, went on to open an award-winning shop, the Saddleworth Cheese Company, and will be selling his products at the festival. He said: “I’m delighted to be attending the Wakefield Festival of Food Drink and Rhubarb and I’m looking forward to demonstrating at the festival.

“Our cheeses are stocked locally in some of the best delis and farm shops in the Wakefield area and I can’t wait to meet our customers.”

Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for culture, Coun Dave Dagger, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Sean to Wakefield. “We’re lucky to have some fantastic local food producers in Wakefield and Yorkshire and I am pleased that the Saddleworth Cheese Company wants to join us.”
