Children help restore lake to beauty

VOLUNTEERS have been carrying out improvement works at Martinwells Lake in Edlington, Doncaster – the scene of the horrific incident in 2009 in which two brothers viciously attacked and tortured two other young boys. St Leger Homes, which manages Doncaster Council’s housing stock, donated more than £1,000 to the Friends of Martinwells Lake group so it could buy tools to renovate the area previously known as Brick Ponds. Help has also come from people including children from Edlington Victoria Primary School. They recently visited the South Yorkshire beauty spot to plant spring bulbs.Maureen Tennison, tenant and treasurer of Friends of Martinwells Lake, said: “This is a great boost for the project and will help the volunteers continue with their excellent work.”
