Children roped in for day of adventure at RAF base

HIGH-flying pupils from Leeming Community Primary School needed no encouragement when invited to make good use of the spring weather at RAF Leeming’s exciting High-Ropes adventure challenge course.

Under the careful watch of Sgt Greg Macdonald and Cpl Adam Bennett, Year 5 and 6 pupils from the school at Gatenby, Northallerton, and a teacher took to the skies on RAF Leeming’s team building aerial rope course which is up to 30ft high. The idea was to improve the children’s aerial confidence and provide them with the opportunity to develop their all-round boldness.

Pupils enjoyed jumping from a platform on a free-fall abseil device, before climbing “telegraph” poles to enjoy team games while exploring their own boundaries and trying something very different.

The pupils had an enjoyable afternoon before returning to the classroom for some rather down-to-earth activities by comparison.

Leeming Community Primary School plays a key role in the education and development of RAF personnel’s children.

As Leeming has married quarters on and off site, the schooling for juniors, ages 5-11, is split. Those on station attend Leeming RAF Community Primary whereas those living at Leeming Bar attend Aiskew & Leeming Bar School.
