Children 'washed in sick bowls' at hospital

Parents have told how they washed their children in sick bowls after problems with a hospital's hot water supply.

Youngsters on three wards at King's College Hospital in London were left without water in January and February. Parents said they had carried water to their children's bedsides in sick bowls and buckets.

Gemma Dadgostar, from Eastbourne, told how she washed her 18-month-old son Aiden, who has cystic fibrosis. "It's a farce. It's just basic. We had to carry water from the sluice room. When we washed Aiden in his room we had to carry the water in cardboard sick bowls."

King's said: "The underlying problem was very difficult to trace, but it has now been rectified. All patients and their families were able to use shower and washing facilities on adjacent wards."
