Chip shop worker bags herself a world record

Takeaway shop worker Steph Celik has a Guinness World Record all wrapped up - after packing five bags of chips in less than a minute.

Mrs Celik, scooped the title after realising that she and her colleagues were all pretty fast, and invited a TV crew to see them in action.

She and other staff at the Blue Whale, in Maltby, near Rotherham, were filmed for the children’s BBC show Officially Amazing, and she came out on top.

The mother-of-seven, 32, said: “I had the idea of giving it a go and suggested it to my boss, She liked it and it all went from there.

“I don’t like waiting in a queue myself, so if I don’t find it amusing I don’t think anyone else would.

“Someone had already attempted the record, so I needed to do all five bags of chips in under 60 seconds. I knew straight away that I’d managed it.

“A few customers have pointed out how quick I am, but others don’t really care as long as they’re fed.

“It felt amazing after I got the record and it’s been crazy since. But this is my moment of madness, my claim to fame.”

Shop owner Nikki Avgousti said all the staff at the Blue Whale were proud of Mrs Celik and added: “Customers have been congratulating her.

“Everyone here is pretty quick so we were wondering who might be the fastest and Steph showed us.

The episode of Officially Amazing featuring Mrs Celik’s record is due to appear on the BBC in March.
