But today Cipriani – who dates model Kelly Brook – took to Twitter to update fans, saying: “Out of hospital now. Once again, thank you for the messages.”

Earlier he tweeted: “My ribs are a bit sore. Feel like I’ve been hit by a bus...”

According to reports, the 25-year-old was on a ‘Wizard of Oz’-themed night out with his Sale team-mates, many of whom were in fancy dress.

Cipriani, who had his face painted, posed for photographs with fans earlier in the evening.

The sportsmen are believed to have been heading to the final bar of the infamous pub crawl — The Dry Dock — when the accident occurred, on Woodhouse Lane in Headingley.

His agent said: “He was running across the road and just misjudged the speed of the bus.”

A spokesman for First bus company said: “The police have investigated this incident and have reported that First and its driver are not at fault.”

He said: “A pedestrian suddenly ran into the road and collided with a First bus travelling at a safe speed.”

He added: “No passengers were harmed in the incident and the driver was shaken but didn’t suffer any apparent physical injuries.”

Bus passenger Erin Bailey said: “It was like a film. They were all shook up, screaming and no-one wanted to get off the bus.”
