City centre roadworks mean delays

Motorists in Leeds are being warned to expect delays as Claypit Lane in Leeds city centre is to be temporarily closed to outbound traffic next month.

The closure will allow work to take place to improve the carriageway and footways.

The outbound carriageway will be closed 24 hours a day from Wednesday June 6 to Friday June 22. Diversions will be signposted.

The work is part of a wider programme to upgrade the streets around the new Leeds Arena. Work will take place between 7am and 9pm.

Coun Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council’s executive member for development and economy, said: “These works are part of a much wider programme of improvements which will benefit the entire area. However there will be some disruption and inconvenience in the short term.

“We have done everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum. We looked at the possibility of working right through the night but decided against that because of the impact on nearby properties. We also explored the possibility of setting up a contraflow but the traffic system was too complicated to allow that.”
