City of Fountains welcomes Royal visitor for unveiling

The Duke unveiled a plaque yesterday on the pavilion wall containing a quote about enchanting fountains from one of Bradford’s most famous sons, the author and broadcaster J B Priestley.

He also viewed City Park from the pavilion roof and was shown the underground plant room where the water and lights are controlled.

The Duke, a grandson of George V and first cousin to the Queen, was met by the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid Roscoe.

He met local business owners and members of City Park’s design, contractor and operational teams before unveiling the plaque.

Created by Bradford Council, the six-acre public space in the heart of the city centre won the Regeneration Award at the British Construction Industry Awards earlier this month.

The British Construction Industry Awards are an industry accolade recognising overall excellence in the delivery of building and civil engineering infrastructure projects.

The City Park was opened to the public in March and boasts more than 100 fountains. It is said to be the largest man-made water feature in any UK city.
