City’s 100th Lord Mayor to focus on ability - not disability
His three chosen charities are Case Training, Age UK, and the Hull & East Riding Institute of the Blind. Coun Brown, who has been disabled since birth, pictured with wife Linda, the Lady Mayoress, said: “I’d like to try and raise the profile for older people in the city and promote the disability aspect and concentrate on the ability rather than the disability. I have just carried on and tried to do exactly what everybody else does and in most cases I have succeeded – I can still ride a bike and swim – it is just the walking.” The councillor was on the council for 14 years before the Liberal Democrats swept to power in 2002.
