City’s planning blueprint criticised by inspector

PLANNING blueprints drawn up to determine the future development of York have been heavily criticised by an independent inspector.

Planning official David Vickery said York Council’s 20-year core strategy, a legal Government requirement, contains numerous shortcomings giving cause for “significant concerns”.

Mr Vickery said it was unclear where almost a third of 16,000 new homes laid out in the vision would be located and it failed to identify how a new community stadium and swimming pool would be delivered.

A meeting will be held on April 23 to address the concerns. Richard Wood, assistant director of strategic planning and transport at York Council, said: “Concerns have been raised by the inspector and we will be providing further information on these issues, which is normal practice.”
