Classic cars show a new lease of life in Woldsway road run

PETROL heads enjoyed a range of classic vehicles as the MG Car Club's Woldsway Classic Car Road Run roared back to Sewerby Hall and Gardens yesterday. The vintage vehicles assembled at the Humber Bridge before meandering their way through the Yorkshire Wolds on their route north.

The event regularly attracts more than 100 entries such as XK series Jaguars and an array of impressive MG models. Customer services officer at Sewerby Hall Graeme Harvey was delighted the club chose once again to end its Woldsway Run at the stately home.

"The event provides our visitors with a chance to see these fantastic vehicles in a superb setting," he added.

The route from the Humber Bridge took a scenic route through the Wolds, including part of Wolds Way walk, before arriving at Sewerby.

The hall is set in more than 50 acres of gardens. Also in the grounds are a children's zoo, golf course, putting and bowling greens, and rose garden.

MG was classic symbol of British "wind in the hair" motoring from 1924. Enthusiasts were outraged when the brand was used to badge up some of Austin Rover's sportier hatchbacks in the late eighties and early nineties.

Later, a new version of the MG roadster returned.
