Classic Volkswagen owners head to Dales for first rally

THE owners of classic Volkswagens from across the North of England are due to descend on the Yorkshire Dales this weekend for the first show of its kind in the area.

The organisers of the Dubs In’t Dales event at the Nidderdale Showground in Pateley Bridge are hoping the VW festival will become an annual event to provide another boost to North Yorkshire’s tourism industry.

The show has been organised by Jez Dyke, the owner of a VW restoration company, Dubtricks, which has been based in Dacre, near Pateley Bridge, for the last seven years.

He said: “The VW is a real classic, but its popularity has increased in the last three years or so, especially campervans. People love the independence you can have, and there is a growing trend for holidaying at home in Britain. We wanted to do something that helps promote the Yorkshire Dales, and hopefully we will be able to introduce the area to a whole new audience.”

As many as 200 VW owners from across Yorkshire and as far afield as Durham, Middlesbrough and Darlington are expected to attend the festival, which starts at noon on Saturday. It continues on Sunday between 9am and 4pm, and is free for day visitors, although overnight camping will cost between £7 and £10. More information is available by calling Mr Dyke on 07899 907760.
