Clean-up warning for bridge yobs

A PURGE is being launched on yobs who hang around a North Yorkshire bridge which has become notorious for graffiti, littering and other hooliganism.

The Dragon foot and cycle bridge across the railway line at the bottom of Claro Road, Harrogate, is being targeted by the Harrogate District Safety Community Partnership.

Working with Network Rail – which has responsibility for the bridge – the partnership is teaming up with the probation service, volunteers and councillors Andrew Goss and Geoff Webber.

North Yorkshire County Council cash will help improve lighting and CCTV coverage of the spot. Yobs will face police action if they continue to cause a nuisance.

Partnership chairman Coun Les Ellington said: "We have cleaned up this area and are looking for people to respect it. In the autumn, we will be working with schools to produce some murals to go on the bridge."

Coun Webber added: "We are delighted to see action being taken on this blight on the community."
