Clegg in 'not for profit' Sheffield home sale

DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg is selling his Sheffield constituency home and plans to honour his pledge not to pocket any profit he makes from the sale, his spokesman confirmed.

Mr Clegg is trying to sell the semi in his Sheffield Hallam constituency and aims to then find a property to rent.

The asking price has not been disclosed.

The Lib Dem leader, who has been the MP for the constituency since 2005, has referred to the house in Sheffield as "modest" and revealed he had bought it in a "complete state of disrepair".

Defending his expenses claims in respect of the house, he told the BBC's Andrew Neil in April: "I think, unlike almost everybody else: I have said very clearly and very openly that my approach to this is that's not my home, it's a home on loan to me from the taxpayer and that when it's sold every single penny of value gained is returned to the taxpayer."

A spokesman confirmed Mr Clegg was planning to sell his Sheffield home and look for a property to rent in line with the new expenses rules for MPs' second homes.

He also confirmed the Deputy Prime Minister's intention not to profit from the transaction.
