Club site could become giant activity centre for city’s youth

THE site of a former Hull nightclub could be transformed into a £6.2m event and activity centre for young people under plans being considered by the city council.

Hull’s Building Schools for the Future team has submitted a planning application to create a four-storey “myplace” building on the site of the former LA’s club in Ferensway.

Aimed primarily at 13 to 19-year-olds, the 900-capacity centre would feature a range of facilities including a performance venue, workshops, music, film and dance studios, a cafe, “juice bar”, offices and outdoor urban sports spaces.

There would also be “chill out” zones, access to healthy food and drink.

Support services will include advice on issues such as teenage pregnancy, accommodation and careers.

It would also offer support and space to local businesses and entrepreneurs.

The venture would be funded by a £5m grant from the myplace programme, with the rest coming from the council.

It would be run by the private sector or a voluntary or community group, the council said.

A report said the building would have a “bold and vibrant” appearance and be a landmark community facility for young people.
