tributes have been paid to a teenage girl who died when a car she was travelling in struck a tree.

Sixteen-year-old Hannah Hunter was killed when the Seat Leon came off the road and crashed in Chevet Lane, in Notton, on the outskirts of Wakefield.

Mrs Massett said Hannah, who was from Wakefield, had performed particularly well on a hairdressing course at the college.

“She had a real flair for that and her tutor spoke of her very highly,” she added.

Hannah was due to receive an award for excellence following a period on work experience at Havercroft Skills Centre at a ceremony tonight.

Tributes have also been paid on social media. One friend wrote on Twitter: “RIP to the beautiful Hannah, she was a like a sister to me and I can’t believe you’re gone.”

Police are appealing for witnesses following Tuesday’s incident at 11.35pm near the junction with Smawell Lane.
