College invites public to see work on £8m creative hub

GUIDED tours are set to take place at Doncaster's former art college, which is currently undergoing an £8m revamp to become a "centre for creativity".

The renovation project, led by the Doncaster Central Development Trust, aims to turn Church View into a new centre providing workspace and meeting rooms for people from creative, digital, arts and social enterprise businesses.

Church View was built in 1913 and has stood empty for four years. It will be transformed internally, with 50,000 sq ft of space being turned into 58 new studios, offices and workspaces set around a landscaped courtyard.

The head of enterprise at Doncaster Central Development Trust, John Wright, said: "We want to encourage people to come along and see what we are doing with Church View.

"This iconic building has played such a significant role in Doncaster's history and we want to capture that as part of our vision for making Church View a centre point for the community in Doncaster.

"We are planning on hosting tours around the building every Friday, which we hope will attract business leaders, creative companies, local community members and other interested parties to come along a learn more about our plans.

"Church View will be a fantastic vehicle to attract back graduates who have left the town, as well as local entrepreneurs who want a credible, creative setting in which to develop their business ideas."

It is hoped that the renovated Church View building, which will also include a bar, a cafe and a conference space, will open its doors in June next year. For further details call 01302 554931.
