Colourful cuisine used to taste political palates

A HOTEL is using an unconventional opinion poll, based on politically-themed restaurant dishes to try to predict the General Election result.

The Monkbar Hotel in York has devised main courses of Gordon "Brown ale and beef sausages on a bed of red onion mash", David "Clameron chowder with blue-mer" bread and Nick "Clegg of lamb" with a liberal helping of rosemary mash, according to the menu.

With each order, chefs will place "votes" against each candidate. The winner will be announced on May 5.

Hotel director June Nelsey said: "While the party leaders will be urging the public to vote with their feet, we want them to vote with their stomachs."
