Comedy star Miranda announces arena date

FUNNY girl Miranda Hart has become the latest star to announce a show at the new Leeds Arena.

Comedy favourite Miranda will be appearing at the £60m venue on March 22, 2014.

The concert will be part of her first stand-up tour since she sprang to fame with her own TV programme in 2009.

Talking about her live dates on the BBC’s One Show, she said: “I’ve decided – and it’s all organised – that I’m going to do a stand-up tour.

“It starts on February 28, 2014. So please come and see me!”

The blurb for the tour reads: “Expect galloping, attempts at song and dance, and simply – such fun!”

Music legend Sir Elton John is due to open the arena with a concert on September 4 next year.

Leeds-based indie group Kaiser Chiefs will then play the 13,500-capacity venue on September 13.

Comic Micky Flanagan is appearing on September 27 while performance art group Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria show will be running from October 23 to 27.

Boy band JLS are set to hit 
the stage on December 20 next year.

The main phase of construction work on the Leeds City Council-backed arena is due to finish in March.

It will then be handed over to operator SMG Europe for its interior fit-out.

Experts estimate the venue will create more than 450 jobs and generate around £25m a year for the Leeds economy.

n Tickets for Miranda’s show go on sale at 10am on Monday, priced £27.50.

Family packages of tickets for two adults and two children under 16 will be available for £82.
