Comments sought on business park extension

Comments are being sought on plans to extend Whitby Business Park ahead of them being submitted to the Government.

The business park is set to be expanded by around 14 hectares. The town has traditionally relied upon the fishing and tourism industries but it is hoped that the expansion plan will attract new businesses which will offer a wide range of jobs and prevent people from having to travel outside Whitby to get a job.

Earlier this year the North York Moors National Park Authority and Scarborough Borough Council asked residents, businesses and other organisations for their views on the future use of the park and their comments were used to draw-up an action plan

The plan shows where the business park could be extended to accommodate more businesses, a hotel and pub, improved paths and landscaping and a better road layout.

It will shape future development within the business park area and has been prepared by officers from the council and park authority.

Ahead of it being submitted to the Government for consideration by a planning inspector further public talks are being held. Any comments must be made in relation to the soundness of the plan and further information can be found at http://scarborough.objective.co.uk/portal

A copy of the plan and supporting documents together with details of how to comment can also be found at the North York Moors National Park Authority offices; The Moors National Park Centre, Danby; Scarborough Town Hall; Whitby Library; and Whitby Tourist Information Centre. Anyone unable to view a copy and who is interested in making comments, a paper copy can be provided on request from the Forward Planning team at Scarborough Borough Council.

The consultation period is
six weeks and starts on November 6. Comments on the Area
Action Plan should be submitted not later than 5pm on December 18.
