Community art challenge to brighten up new hospital

IT WILL be an ultra-modern building representing a new era for healthcare in Beverley.

But health chiefs have announced plans to bring a bit of nature into the town’s forthcoming community hospital by displaying the work of local artists.

The community art challenge is being run by NHS East Riding and is open to anyone living or working in the borough.

Examples of photography, painting, collage, needlecraft or sculpture can be entered under six categories: towns and buildings; coast; countryside; wildlife; plants and flowers; and the weather.

Organiser Katrina Hunt said: “The challenge has been devised by the Local Community Liaison Group set up to support the ongoing development of the new community hospital. The challenge is themed around bringing the natural world into the hospital, and we particularly welcome entries that focus on peoples’ favourite place in the East Riding.”

She added: “Whether you’re new to art or have been producing work for years, we’d love you to share your art with patients, staff and visitors through this exciting challenge.”

Entries will be judged by a panel including a local artist and prizes will be awarded in each category.

The £19m, 30-bed hospital is being built on a 10-acre site in Swinemoor Lane and is due to open in spring next year.

It will feature outpatient facilities, diagnostic services, including X-ray and ultrasound, minor injuries services, out of hours facilities, therapy services and a base for the neighbourhood care team.
