Commuter anger as long-stay car parks axed

COMMUTERS into Leeds have reacted angrily to plans to end cheap, long-stay car parking at seven car parks.

About 2,500 long-stay spaces that serve Holbeck Urban Village will no longer be available from the middle of January. They charge around 3.50 for the day.

Leeds Council took action as the car parks do not have planning permission for long stays and their use went against policies to reduce congestion.

Users of the car parks say public transport is inconvenient and unreliable and other car parks are too expensive.

A planning inspector backed the council's decision.

A council spokesman said some of the sites can operate as short-stay car parks.
