Conservatives claim fraud in Yorkshire seat

ALLEGATIONS of voting fraud in a constituency during the General Election have been reported to a Yorkshire council and police force.

Calderdale Council has been asked to look at claims some postal votes cast in the Halifax constituency may be invalid.

It is understood local Conservative officials made the complaint after Labour's Linda Riordan was returned as MP with a majority of 1,472.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Taylor, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "The complaint has been sent through by the Tories to the local authority's electoral office, where it is being looked at.

"If we receive an official complaint from the local authority, we will investigate it."

A spokesman for Calderdale Council said: "We have received a complaint which we have passed on to the police."
