Conservatives lose Bradford after 10 years

TEN years of Conservative rule has come to an abrupt end in Bradford after leadership of the Council was dramatically returned to Labour yesterday.

During a meeting at City Hall, Labour's 39 councillors were enough to see group leader Councillor Ian Greenwood resume his office in the top job, which he lost in 2000.

The 32 Conservative councillors were left fuming on the sidelines after the 14-strong Liberal Democrat group abstained.

Lib Dem leader Coun Jeanette Sunderland said the Tories "simply do not have sufficient support" to keep control.
