Constituency date for Labour leader

LABOUR Party leader Ed Miliband will be in his South Yorkshire constituency today to officially open the new dialysis unit at Mexborough's Montagu Hospital.

The MP for Doncaster North, whose constituency boundaries were changed earlier this year to include Mexborough, will also open the hospital's new extension to the Aurora Centre during his visit this afternoon.

The new Dearne Valley Dialysis Unit has 12 dialysis stations, which have the capacity to treat up to 72 renal patients over a three-shift rota, six days a week.

In addition to the dialysis stations there are consulting rooms, a patient resource room, a waiting area, and various staff facilities.

Dr Ian Stott, consultant nephrologist at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Renal dialysis can take a significant amount of time out of a patients' day and providing this service locally, reducing the travelling time, is a great benefit to patients."

The Trust's renal services now operate across three hospitals – Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital.
