Contract blow for cake maker
About 100 workers are facing the axe at a Yorkshire cake manufacturer after the loss of a major contract.
Greencore, which employs 3,000 people at Hull and its other Yorkshire factories in Selby, Sheffield, Keighley and Leeds, is the UK's leading supplier of Christmas cakes and chilled non-dairy desserts.
Its factory on Amsterdam Road in Hull employs about 1,000 people, including agency staff. Greencore said the loss of a contract with a major customer was to blame for the restructuring.
