‘Cool’ runners thankful for clouds in city half marathon

ELITE and fun runners flocked to Bradford yesterday for the city’s third annual run.

The serious runners competed in the half marathon and the less serious headed to Lister Park for the fun run.

The fastest man in the half marathon was Stephen Broadbent with a time of 1:15, with David Thompson second (1:17) and Simon Pass third (1:18).

Quickest woman was Joe Buckley (1:27), with Andrea Dennison second (1:33) and Karol Sobolewski (1:35) third.

The 13.1-mile course includes frequent hills and climb up the well-known Highgate Hill just before the 11-mile mark.

Over 1,000 took part in the big race, with around 100 joining the fun run.

This year’s official charity partner of the Bradford City Run was the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, established by the late Mrs Tomlinson to raise money for children’s and cancer charities.

Mrs Tomlinson’s widower competed in the race alongside charity mascot Tommo the Tortoise.

Many runners raised money for Marie Curie Cancer Care Bradford Hospice, which is the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity.

Organisers said that conditions for running were better than expected as the temperature yesterday morning was cooler than it had been on Saturday.
