The key duo are among several players whose deals expire at the end of June.

The Owls are keen to keep the pair and they have been offered new deals, but the reality of the game's shutdown due to Coronavirus and the pressure on clubs financially has meant that circumstances have changed.

Monk, whose side return to action at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, said: "We were speaking to Steven Fletcher and Morgan Fox before all of this came and contract talks were going there and then this (Coronavirus) came.

"For the football club and all clubs in trying to assess what this means for the future and stuff like that, those circumstances change. But I know with those guys that offers have been made and those conversations are still ongoing and I am hopeful.

"I have already said that I want them here and the club wants them here. But circumstances have changed and clubs are realising that and players have to realise that as well.

"It is not like before and the financial side of it has changed at football clubs. That needed to change at the club anyway and we have already spoken about it. We needed to bring that wage bill down and condense anyway before all of this.

"But this (Coronavirus) has probably emphasised this even more. Those conversations are different now. But I know from the club and the communication back that offers have gone to those players and we are hopeful that they will sign those contracts. But it will be their decision and choice.

"But they know I want them here, especially those two."
