Cost waived for operation to build girl's ear

Doctors have constructed an ear for a 15-year-old girl and waived the cost of the operation.

Kade Romain, who is from Trinidad, was born without ears and missing part of her ear canal, leaving her partially deaf.

Last month she had one of the ears, which are constructed from rib cartilage, attached during an operation at the Spire Murrayfield Hospital in Edinburgh.

Unused parts of cartilage were placed back in her rib cage where they will grow and replace the parts used for the ears.

The cost of the operations and treatment is believed to be about 50,000. The operation to attach the second ear is expected to take place in December.

Dance teacher Robina Addison brought Kade to Scotland after visiting her orphanage in Trinidad.
