Costume creations take inspiration from Georgian style to Lady Gaga

FASHION from the days of Georgian royalty to the outrageous costumes flaunted by today's dance floor divas is the focus of a new event at a North Yorkshire stately home.

"Artrageous" workshops being held at Beningbrough Hall and Gardens, near York, tell the story of changing style from the iconic Princess Augusta through to Lady Gaga.

Visitors will be offered a whirlwind tour of costume over the last 200 years and then use it as inspiration to create their own funky junk fashion.

Those who create an Artrageous outfit could get the red carpet treatment on Yorkshire Day when volunteers in Georgian costume will join selected workshop participants in modelling their costume at Beningbrough.

Clare Fletcher, learning and community officer, said yesterday: "We are very excited about our Augusta to Gaga workshops. Princess Augusta was a fashion icon in the Georgian period and her style was copied far and wide.

"We shall take inspiration from her fashion and others through the ages up to the fabulous Lady Gaga in the present day to help us design our own funky junk fashions."

The sessions continue today and tomorrow between 1-4pm. For more information, call 01904 472027.
