Costumes from history for sale at market

if you adore dressing up in historical costumes yourself or watching others do it instead... this weekend may appeal to you.

History lovers are to get the chance to delve into one of the most spectacular dressing up wardrobes this Easter at the Royal Armouries Museum’s first History Market.

From the Romans to the Renaissance and the Tudors to the First World War – there’s a chance to buy a whole range of replica costumes, depicting fashion trends and outfits from across the ages. There will also be a range of other objects to buy – including a variety of saddles, including one from one of the Royal Armouries’ famous jousts, plus full armour and shields.

Independent stallholders from across the country will display and sell a wide range of heritage goods – from a historical shoemaker to Roman reconstruction group to books and beads.

Organisers say there’s something to suit all pockets, with price tags ranging from £2 to £2,000.

Museum director Peter Armstrong said: “Whether you fancy dressing up as a cowboy or a knight – or a Roman maid or Tudor lady – this is a fantastic opportunity to buy costumes, full armour and objects that just aren’t available in the shops or online.

“All the items are replicas from the Royal Armouries’ wardrobe – they have no historical significance but look fantastic.”
