Council proposes centre for services

a new customer service centre is to be opened in Dewsbury by Kirklees Council.

It will be based in the Walsh Building, in Town Hall Way, if council leaders give their approval on June 21.

It is proposed to bring together a range of services, including revenues and benefits, making them easier to access.

The plan would move the point of contact from Dewsbury Town Hall into a specially-designed centre.

If Cabinet members give approval, work will start on refurbishing the Walsh Building. The aim would be to open the new customer service centre in around nine months.

Councillor Shabir Pandor, Cabinet member for resources, said: “This scheme is a valuable opportunity for us to provide better facilities in North Kirklees and help local people access the services that are important to them.

“There is a wide range of benefits, not least that the council’s offer to local residents would become even more efficient at a time when we must save around £80m due to cuts.”

The plans will allow the Town Hall to focus on being a cultural and events centre.
