Councillors bid to block beagle farm

Councillors Peter Turner, Brian Skow and John Holtby, who all represent the Mid-Holderness ward on East Riding Council, have written a joint letter of objection to the Planning Inspectorate. Communities Secretary Eric Pickles will have the final say on whether the facility in Grimston, which would breed beagles as well as ferrets, will go ahead after an appeal against the plans’ rejection by councillors last year.

The three members are objecting on the grounds there would be an “unacceptable” impact on residents’ quality of life.

Coun Turner said: “The road system and especially the cul-de-sac, which is the only way in and out of the B&K premises, are totally inadequate to cope with the current traffic movements let alone the increased levels and intensity of production.”

B&K has said there will be less movements to and from the site after it is completed and without the development the future of the Grimston operation will be “put in doubt”.
