Country hall estate to host summer walks for fitness

NATIONAL Trust workers are encouraging people who want to get fit to take part in a series of walks and offering the added bonus of free entry to one of the region's finest country houses.

A series of walks have been organised around the Hardwick estate between Bolsover and Chesterfield and has been organised by the trust and the Bolsover Countryside Partnership.

It is hoped that the events will not only help people improve their health but also give them opportunity to explore some of the countryside and history which can be found on their doorstep.

The National Trust's community learning officer at Hardwick, Jo Rawson, who will be leading many of the walks, said: "The aim of these walks is to enable people to get out and enjoy walking and also to improve their health and wellbeing.

"Walking in the countryside is a far more exciting way of getting fit than going to the gym and these walks will offer the opportunity for people to explore Hardwick Park with trained Walking for Health leaders.

"All walk participants will receive a free entry ticket to Hardwick Hall on registration to encourage them to return to Hardwick to explore all that this wonderful place has to offer."

The first walk takes place on Thursday, July 8, between 10.30am and noon at Hardwick Park Centre.

Ms Rawson says the walks are easy to moderate in ability and suitable walking footwear and clothing is advised. The walks, to be held twice a month, are also supported by Natural England and the local primary care trust.
