Air passengers endure nightmare flight thanks to stag party louts

Leeds Crown Court heard Barry Hogan and Colin Courtney hurled foul-mouthed abuse and made crude sexual remarks as they returned home with 11 members of a stag party.

Courtney also removed his trousers and pulled up his boxer shorts to show off his buttock on board the flight which contained children and elderly passengers.

The pair were given suspended prison sentences yesterday after the both pleaded guilty to being drunk on an aircraft.

The incident happened on board a Jet2 flight from Budapest to Leeds Bradford Airport on June 29.

Louise Pryke, prosecuting, said Hogan and Courtney were among the last to board the plane. They were visibly drunk and were shouting and swearing.

Miss Pryke said the pair refused to be quiet while cabin crew were carrying out the safety drill and they would not wear their seat belts.

A number of passengers asked to be moved away from them and Hogan made a “crude sexual remark” to a female passenger.

The pair continued to carry on swearing despite being told to calm down by crew members. They still refused to wear seat belts even when the plane hit turbulence after taking off.

After being issued with a warning letter, Hogan grabbed it out of the hand of the senior flight attendant and screwed it up before throwing it back at her.

The pair were arrested upon arrival. Hogan was taken to Leeds General Infirmary after telling officers he had taken a lot of drugs.

Courtney, 28, of Ruskin Road, Darlington, and Hogan, 36, of Parkside, Darlington, were given 16-week prison sentences, suspended for two years.

They were both ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work.
