Barnsley bookmakers targeted by armed robber

A gunman got away with hundreds of pounds in cash after robbing a bookmakers in Barnsley.

The man, who was reportedly armed with a black handgun, struck at the Coral shop on Garden Street in Darfield at about 5.40pm on Monday.

He threatened two members of staff before escaping on foot with an estimated £700.

No shots were fired but the staff were left shaken by the incident.

The man is described as about 5ft 10in tall and of “slender” build.

His face was disguised with a woollen hat and black scarf and he was also wearing an orange high-visibility vest, black gloves and beige combat trousers with black patches between the knee and ankle.

Witnesses are asked to contact South Yorkshire Police using the force’s 101 phone number, quoting log reference 928 of Monday, November 16.
